Three-year-old identical twins from Virginia, Ben and William, had a challenging start to life. Born 11 weeks premature and weighing just over 1kg each, they spent the first two months of their lives in intensive care. Soon after, it was evident that they were not reaching their milestones and at 8 months old, they were diagnosed with spastic quadriplegia cerebral palsy. Put simply, this means that the movement of both their arms and legs is affected, as it this balance due to poor core strength.
With 2 older siblings, their mum Sharon is now their full-time carer. The boys have undergone countless hours of therapy in the hope of providing them with the best chance at a wonderful life. Their dream is to walk independently.
This dream has the potential to become reality. Recently, Ben and William were accepted for a surgery that would improve the boys balance, comfort and most importantly – give the boys the chance to walk.
The community has rallied behind Ben and William and are helping to raise funds for the surgery. The cost is significant, but the benefits are truly life changing.
If you’d like to help this local Virginia family, you are invited to take part in upcoming fundraising events. Follow their journey online here or call directly on 0402 307 489 if you’d like to lend your support.
