The benefits of ‘NEAT’ exercise

The benefits of exercise and remaining active are widely known. With all entertainment and large gatherings cancelled and people being asked to self-isolate, we need to remember to keep moving. The ripple effects on our health and wellbeing may be felt for many years to come.

Get your NEAT up where you can, however you can. NEAT is Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis or the energy you expend through the day. For example, when you type an email, walk to the fridge or lift up your children – this is all NEAT and can contribute to longer-term health benefits, particularly if your usual activities have been canned.

Some creative ways that our members get their NEAT up:
• Dancing with the kids
• Playing with the dog
• Squats while cooking
• Gardening
• Walking around the house when talking on the phone

No more feet up, get your NEAT up!!
